HFSJones & Bartlett Learning wants you to have a safe and happy holiday season.

The winter holidays bring snow, presents, decorations, lots of cooking, and visiting family and friends. Amongst the celebration and craziness, it can be easy to forget the importance of fire safety.

The following are a few holiday fire safety tips from the NFPA:

  • Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections.
  • More than half of home candle fires occur when something that can catch on fire is too close to the candle – keep decorations away from candles!
  • Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source (fireplace, radiator, candle, heat vent, etc.)
  • Always unplug the Christmas tree and blow out lit candles before leaving home or going to bed.
  • Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stove stop.
  • Keep all candles, matches and lighters out of the reach of children.

For more ways to ensure your friends and family have a safe holiday season, check out NFPA’s Project Holiday.

Happy Holidays from the Jones & Bartlett Learning Public Safety Team!
